Every once in a while I want something homey– something covered in gravy, served alongside home fried or mashed and cheesy potatoes, with a roll slathered in butter. Tonight was one of those nights, and as I was asking The Boy what he wanted for dinner, I already knew what I wanted: turkey with gravy, potatoes, rolls, and brussels sprouts.
We fixed dinner together, The Boy chopping the potato, heating up the turkey. I reheated some roasted brussels, cooking the potato until it was crisp on the outside, soft in the middle. We warmed up some rolls, and when everything was done, sat down to dinner.
Everything was delicious, warm, comforting. The sprouts were chewy and buttery, the potatoes perfectly done, the turkey filled with flavor. It was like a quick Thanksgiving dinner a few weeks early. I told The Boy as we ate that from the end of the week until after Thanksgiving I wasn’t fixing any more meals with turkey in them. I don’t want to burn out on turkey before the holiday. Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. I love enjoying the day with my family over a big and delicious meal.
With the holidays coming, what is your favorite holiday?
